Literature Text

"I've already devoured your spring leaves."  She said this matter-of-factly as we sat on the park bench, feeding bread to ducks by the side of the river.

"Oh?  Have you?"  I gave her a tone of curiosity and benefit of the doubt.

"Oh, yes."  She turned to face me, putting one curled leg up on the bench and aiming her eyes at the side of my amused and bemused face.  "I have raised your chicks to hens, taken their eggs and brought them to the chopping block so they can be fried and parted out to the masses."

"Really?  I don't feel so pillaged."

"That's part of my charm, darling."  She touched one of her fingers to my cheekbone and drew it down the side of my face.  "I weathered your shingles, letting my rains seep in and mold your upstairs.  You breathe harder now because I have infested your beams and joists."

"Wow," I replied, giving her no more indulgence in the way I formed the word.  "You must be the worst thing ever to happen to me."

She leaned in, putting her mouth near my ear, "For that assumption, you would be wrong.  My dear man, I am the master of all that is good in you.  I have taken your sweetness, cycled it through me and now we are one."

"Hmm. And what do I get out of all this?"

Kissing my ear, the next whisper was smaller and larger. "You live again, through me.  I'm pregnant dear."
As usual, the first line popped into my head...

(no, nothing to do with my life)

I think I agree with *0hgravity down there, about the last line. I think it might be stronger without.

You stories have this awesome dreamlike quality to them, where everyone talks in riddles and even the narration is sort of thick and fuzzy around the edges. It adds a beautiful atmosphere to even the simplest of tales, like this one, and raises them up to an entirely new level. I love it. :)
